Solids, Liquids, and... God?

When Big J asked me why water pours the way it does, I responded "because it's a liquid." This little exchange was the start of an impromptu science lesson. After giving him a few more examples of liquids, I said "and other things are solids, like this table, or this piece of fruit. They're harder and don't pour like liquids do." I moved on to gases, describing them as things that we can't really touch and feel, that float in the air. Then I added, "and sometimes we can't smell or see them, either."

I could see his wheels turning.

"Oh," he said matter-of-factly. "Like God. God is a gas."
